Despite its common name and appearance, heavenly bamboo, Nandina domestica, is not a bamboo, but a relative of Berberis. Nandina domestica ‘Fire Power’ is a compact shrub bearing clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers in summer, in contrast with bamboo-like leaves. In autumn the leaves turn shades of red and orange before falling, and the flowers develop into shiny red fruits. With its long season of interest and compact habit, Nandina domestica ‘Fire Power’ is perfect for a sunny spot in a small garden, and can also be grown in containers.

For best results grow in moist but well-drained sun in partial shade, in a sheltered spot away from strong winds. In colder regions it may need protecting from frost.
