Fargesia rufa / Chinese Fountain Bamboo is a small to medium sized, non invasive, clump forming bamboo. Fargesia rufa has lush green leaves all year and is useful to gardeners having a dense bushy habit developing into a compact arching specimen in tight non-invasive clumps. It has rapid growth each year growing between 1.5 – 2m in height. Rufa produces masses of small leaves on top of orange and green stems (or culms). Very hardy and tolerant of both sun and shade. Happy growing in most planting soils but as with all bamboo add a good, rich compost when planting, keep well watered until established to achieve the best possible results. Hardy and easy to grow in most soils, only requiring watering during periods of extreme dry. Fargesia rufa is a quick rooting bamboo, easy to grow and suitable as specimen, low screen or dense bushy hedge. When grown as a hedge it can easily be clipped with either shears or hedge cutter. Due to it’s small size Fargesia rufa is ideally suited to smaller gardens or where space is limited. It is also perfect in pots and raised beds.
