One of the most popular Japanese flowering cherry trees, Prunus 'Kanzan' is loaded with blousy, pinkish/purple, double flowers with a frilly edge from March-April until its bronze foliage begins to unfurl. The bronze coloured, new leaves turn mid-green before adopting burnt orange colours in autumn.
It makes a fantastic avenue tree and is equally as magnificent grown as a single specimen. A medium sized tree with a spreading habit, Prunus 'Kanzan' will grow to an estimated 6 x 4 metres in 20 years. Suited to most positions, including polluted sites, this flowering ornamental tree requires a spot that avoids very wet or shallow, chalky soil. For a similar tree with purple foliage see Prunus Royal Burgundy.
